I highly recommend this. This afternoon I got a spam email from my friend. To politely make him aware his email had been compromised, I simply responded with the message “FUCK YOU SPAM BOT”. Apparently, I had hit reply-all to the message. Meaning, that message went to everyone who was just spammed. A mutual friend responded in gest. But someone I don’t know from the list, took it upon himself to tell me how dumb it was to resend the message to all those people. Obviously, this is some IT mouth breather that lives in his mother’s basement. (No offense Andrew). But, this is what ensued.

You are yelling at a spam bot, but “replied all” to a whole host of real email addresses, no doubt harvested from your or a friend of yours’ computer by an infection of some sort. In doing so you are passing on of this list of valid email addresses to hundreds of others, perpetuating the cycle of harvesting and resending.
